Pacers, Lakers Discussing Paul George Trade

Reports of the Lakers' potential trade with the Kings come just a few hours removed from a blockbuster trade that shook the National Basketball Association community Tuesday, as Los Angeles parted ways with starting point guard D'Angelo Russell. L.A. holds the No. 2 and No. 28 picks in the first round of the draft. The Lakers may have cap space and this year's second overall pick, but they also don't own a draft pick in 2018, and it's hard to build a proper supporting cast through free agency.

While George is one of the best players in the league, Golden State would have to move one of their core peaces.

If the Cavs are able to complete this trade, it signals they are going all in on the 2017-2018 season, as George would still be a likely candidate to bolt after one season in Northeast Ohio.

According to the same initial report, the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers have also talked with the Pacers about a possible trade for George. IN can offer him a five-year, $177 million extension as opposed to the four-year deal the Lakers are permitted to offer.

All four teams have one major problem in getting George: what can they give up that the Pacers would want.

A superstar wants to play for them and it is known throughout the league, reducing his trade value.

Paul George's days with the Pacers are now numbered.

News broke earlier in the day of reported trade talks between the two teams, but the Lakers needed to make a move in order to better their bargaining position.

On one hand, the Lakers have not offered any indication they would make a deal for George for any of their young players since they would have enough cap space to sign him anyway in 2018. It has the capability to sign George long term should a trade come to fruition. "The rebuilding Lakers do not now intend to part with any of their young assets in a trade with the Pacers", the report said.

Russell averaged 15.6 points and 4.8 assists in his second season with the Lakers and the 7-foot-1 Mozgov averaged 7.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.9 blocked shots last season.

Sure, Magic might be very much interested on somebody like George and since the team is now on a rebuilding stage the superstar joining the team is certainly more than welcome. Do they play the year out and hope that George changes his mind and risk the chance of losing him for nothing or do they try to trade him now and get assets in return?
