Scooter turns slugger, ties MLB record with 4 homers

The four-home run game is one of the most exciting baseball feats-it fits neatly into a short highlight video, and the building crowd excitement is great-and it's among the least predictable baseball, because anyone can achieve it. The 27 year old Cincinnati native has knocked in 30 RBI's, seven home runs and 35 hits so far this season.

RANGERS 10, METS 7: At Arlington, Texas, Joey Gallo hit a towering two-run homer that put Texas ahead to stay, and the Rangers ended a four-game losing streak with a victory over NY.

He singled his first time up, then homered in four straight at-bats, including a grand slam. He became the first player ever to collect four homers, five hits and 10 RBIs in a game.

Gennett shares the distinction of wearing No. 4 with a four-homer hitter of acclaim - Lou Gehrig - who happens to be the only player to hit four homers in a game for the team that plays its home games in the city of that player's birth. He went a flawless 5-for-5 at the plate and finished the game with 10 runs batted in.

Scooter Gennett did something nobody else in almost 150 years of the Cincinnati Reds existence did last night.

CHICAGO - Eddie Butler pitched three-hit ball into the sixth inning, Kris Bryant hit a two-run homer and Chicago beat Miami for its fourth straight win.

Gennett hit his second career grand slam in the third inning off Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright.

Jesse Chavez (5-6) got the win, allowing two runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Both doing so after their time with the Cincinnati Reds.

Wainwright (nine earned runs allowed) was not allowed to face Gennett again, being pulled after Suarez cleared the bases with a triple prior to Gennett coming up. Mitch Moreland and Hanley Ramirez went back-to-back in the fourth, and Andrew Benintendi hit a long solo home run in the fifth. He missed on a big swing against John Brebbia, and then hit the next pitch solidly - leaving one of those streaks on the barrel - for homer No. 4. After Tuesday's outburst vs. the Cardinals, he has 42 career homers over parts of five seasons.

The Reds have won three in a row against the Cardinals for the first time since 2015. Zack Cozart went 2 for 3 with a double, while Billy Hamilton and Joey Votto added base hits as well in the win.

Martinez retired 14 straight batters after Duvall's leadoff single before the Reds got to him in the seventh, loading the bases with nobody out. The right-hander fell to 9-11 career against Cincinnati with a 5.01 ERA. Cincinnati LHP Tony Cingrani was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list and RHP Lisalverto Bonilla was optioned to Triple-A Louisville. Cingrani had been sidelined April 21 with a strained right oblique.

As cool as that home run was, it brought up several awesome stories about the Reds utility man, who played left field in this game.

A brief rain storm on Monday caused the Reds' batting practice to be cancelled, meaning Scott Schebler couldn't test his left shoulder that caused him to leave Saturday's game.

Gennett's grand slam in the third inning came off Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright.
