Police officer stabbed at MI airport

Police officer stabbed at MI airport”

The FBI is investigating Wednesday's stabbing of a police officer at the Flint, Mich., global airport as a possible act of terrorism, the agency says. They also confirmed that Ftouhi is the lone suspect.

The officer was stabbed in the neck at Bishop International Airport, Lt. David Kaiser, a spokesman for the Michigan State Police, told CNN.

CNN is told the suspect is in custody.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in charge David Gelios told media the weapon was a 12in (30cm) knife with an 8in serrated blade.

"Please keep the officer in your prayers", said Michigan State Police on Twitter.

Authorities said Ftouhi had expressed "hatred for the United States" during questioning in custody, and were conducting joint operations in Canada and the USA in the wake of the stabbing.

Ftouhi, 49, referenced killings in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan and yelled "Allahu Akbar", or "God is great", before attacking Neville, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of MI.

Authorities were conducting joint operations in Canada and the USA in the wake of the non-fatal stabbing at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan, Gelios said.

It showed three women, their faces concealed by blankets, being led away by Canadian gendarmes and provincial police officers.

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said in a statement: "My thoughts and prayers are with all of our law enforcement officers who work to service and protect us each and every day".

WDIV reports the airport reopened at 4:15 p.m. local time Wednesday.

"I want the public to know that several agencies are involved and working to ensure the situation is under control".

The White House said Wednesday that Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert briefed President Trump on the stabbing.

No passengers were harmed in Wednesday's assault, according to the airport, which was evacuated and remained closed until further notice. About 800,000 passengers took flights through Bishop past year, according to statistics from the airport.
