Hundreds evacuated from London towers as fire fallout widens”

Residential areas in north London witnessed chaos and confusion on Saturday as hundreds of residents from four apartment blocks were forced to evacuate amid fears over the buildings' high fire risk.

Newlon, a nonprofit that manages the complex and others in London, said fire officials "made some straightforward recommendations for the building, which we have already started work on".

Residents leave a tower block on the Chalcots Estate in Camden, London, Friday evening, as the building is evacuated to allow "urgent fire safety works" to take place.

Wandsworth Council leader Ravi Govindia said the tragic events at Grenfell House had "brought this issue into sharp focus" and said he was not prepared to run the risk of something similar happening in the borough.

Eighty-three families who were asked to relocate have refused to move. He said officials knocked on residents' doors Friday night, two hours after he had heard about the evacuation on the news.

But they are frustrated that the government appears not be doing enough to assure survivors and relatives that they can come forward safely and anonymously to report concerns.

Fire checks have been carried out on some 600 high-rise buildings across England after a fire ravaged a social tower block in west London last week, killing at least 79 people.

Several towers found to have aluminium composite material (ACM) have headed off concern by saying highly non-combustible insulation is also installed.

Portsmouth and Brent, along with Camden, Manchester, Plymouth and Hounslow, were named by the Government on Saturday as having buildings that had failed tests amid a nationwide safety operation launched after at least 79 people died when fire ripped through Grenfell Tower in north Kensington on June 14. It did not specify the locations of the buildings.

Local residents gather outside Swiss Cottage Central Library as council provide temp accommodation.

Javid told Sky News there would have to be a long-term review of safety regulations, stating: "That has to happen".

A statement released by Downing Street on behalf of Prime Minister Theresa May said: "My thoughts are with residents being evacuated in Camden while their homes are made safe tonight".

The fire has become a flashpoint for public anger at the record of May's Conservative Party in government following austerity-driven cuts to local authority budgets.

"At 8:30pm (1930GMT) yesterday they told us: "you have to leave", I don't understand why", Murtaza Taha, 27, told AFP.

Proceeds from August's FA Community Shield match between Premier League winners Chelsea and FA Cup winners Arsenal will be donated to the victims of last week's Grenfell Tower Fire in London, the English Football Association has said.

She said local authorities were being urged to send in samples of cladding and material to be tested and "immediate action" would be taken if the materials were found not to be up to fire safety standards.

He said: "This is a big commitment from Wandsworth and we will continue to work closely with the council to make sure the borough and its residents are as safe as possible".

Police said Friday that they were considering filing manslaughter charges in the Grenfell disaster and they were conducting a wide-ranging investigation that will look at everything that contributed to it. It's safe, they tell her.
