Arsenal starlet Chris Willock seeking summer switch to join Portuguese giants Benfica

Arsenal starlet Chris Willock seeking summer switch to join Portuguese giants Benfica”

Arsenal are believed to be close to losing highly-rated youngster Chris Willock at present, with Benfica believed to be closing in.

Willock, 19, is out of contract at the end of this month and has not chosen to renew his deal at Arsenal. The report claims has decided on a move to Portugal, where he'll get a better chance of making the grade in Benfica's first team given their proficiency for developing young talent.

The youngster's career-defining moment thus far came when he made his debut under Arsene Wenger during a league cup tie versus Nottingham Forest in September past year, going on to make one further appearance in the same competition.

Willock is expected to soon put pen to paper with Benfica and will sample the Portuguese top flight as he looks to take the next step in his career.

And The Mirror reports that the London-born teenager has already flown to Portugal to discuss terms with Benfica.

Manchester City, Everton, Celtic and Borussia Dortmund were also reported to be interested in signing him.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger spoke glowingly of Willock's talent in March past year and predicted a bright future for the young forward.

Wenger told the Evening Standard: "Chris is a very gifted player with natural strength and natural talent".

Although, with so many talented players ahead of him in the Arsenal ranks, it's unlikely that he'll get many opportunities heading into the new Premier League season. "He has what you do not find very easily".
