Can GOP health-care bill pass the Senate?

President Donald Trump pressured the handful of Republican senators who may be planning to vote against Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's plan to overhaul Obamacare, days before the Senate is likely to begin debate on the measure.

The CBO said it would issue an assessment of the bill early this week.

As we know, the bill was written behind closed doors by Senate Republicans and many Americans, including Sen.

Heller's comments came the day after four conservative senators issued a joint statement saying they can not support the bill unless it is changed.

Two senators, who span much of the ideological range of the Republican conference in the Senate.

McConnell may be pushing for speedy passage because that disunity is only getting worse. It would offer tax credits to help offset the cost of coverage, and eliminate most ACA taxes on corporations and higher-income Americans, according to an analysis by NPR News.

Amid the scrum, there are signs Republican opposition is only growing.

Trump held a victory celebration in the Rose Garden of the White House after the House vote, but since then has called the legislation "mean".

"That was my term because I want to see - and I speak from the heart - that's what I want to see", Trump said. The other four Republicans who said they would not back the current bill - Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, Mike Lee of Utah and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin - did so because it did not go far enough to repeal Obamacare. "We have a few people that are I think, I could say modestly, they're not standing on the rooftops and screaming". A number of other centrist senators-including Rob Portman and Shelley Moore Capito-have also voiced concerns about the Senate's cuts to Medicaid.

"I would like to delay the thing", Johnson said.

The KFF poll notes that "proposed Medicaid changes were not initially a major point of discussion surrounding consideration of the House bill... which may partly explain why many respondents were unaware of its effect".

Dean Heller, R-Nevada, became the fifth Senate Republican to reject the measure.

"Well, they are also four good guys and they are four friends of mine", said Trump.

The US Senate bill resembles legislation the House approved last month. He said Democrats "are doing everything we can to fight this bill because it's so devastating for the middle class".

He said they had "at best, a 50-50 chance".
