DHS' Jeanette Manfra: Russia Targeted Election Systems in 21 States

DHS' Jeanette Manfra: Russia Targeted Election Systems in 21 States”

"I believe that the reference to the hoax is about the fact that they're trying to delegitimize his win", she said of the Democrats. "No one has notified us of anything to that effect".

He started off by stating that the former Homeland Security Adviser Jeh Johnson was the latest intelligence official to deny any connections between the Trump campaign & Russian Federation.

In the second panel, state election officials also indicated that they were working to secure voting systems, with and without federal help.

Johnson's testimony on Russian intrusion is consistent with the assessment of several USA intelligence agencies, including the FBI, CIA and National Security Agency.

"For 25 years, the Oklahoma election system has had a paper ballot and an optical scan", he told Manfra.

"I recall very clearly that I was not pleased that we were not in there helping them patch this vulnerability", Johnson added.

The Thursday report said it wasn't clear whether Russian Federation was involved in the specific case where a voter's information was altered.

US officials first found hacking aimed at state systems last August, he said. "We are looking at ways we can make our systems more secure".

President Trump on Thursday called allegations his campaign colluded with Russian Federation "a big Dem HOAX", firing off several tweets to highlight testimony Trump says vindicates him and taking shots at the Obama administration for failing to stop the Kremlin's alleged attempts to meddle in the US presidential election. "From whom? And with what level of knowledge?" said Michael Bahar, the former top Democratic staffer on the House Intelligence Committee.

Dean confirmed Oklahoma election officials met previous year with Homeland Security, which offered an array of cybersecurity options.

"The Internet has allowed Russian Federation to do so much more today than they've ever been able to do in the past", Priestap said.

Johnson received several questions from the Committee on the timing of his release of information on the hacks to the public.

Intelligence agencies have concluded hackers stole information from the phishing operation and provided it to WikiLeaks seeking to impact the USA presidential election.

The Senate intelligence committee, which also is examining Moscow's interference in the campaign, is holding a separate hearing Wednesday with officials from DHS and the FBI's counterintelligence division.

"They have less people to carry out their activities, so that has certainly had an impact on the number of people", Priestap said.

But Johnson's decision triggered an outcry from state and federal election organization officials. "Which agency is the prime mover in that?"

Warner on Tuesday sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly asking the agency to disclose more information about hacking attempts on state and local election systems.

"I do not believe our country is made safer by holding this information back from the American public", he said. The votes were counted as cast, and Donald J. Trump, odd though the fact may be, was elected president of these United States, fair and square.
