London police confirm deadly high rise fire began in an apartment fridge”

British officials have ordered an immediate examination of the Hotpoint fridge-freezer which has been identified as sparking the Grenfell Tower fire that killed 79 people. She added that the refrigerator, which has a freezer on the bottom and refrigerator on top, has not been recalled.

"All I can say at the moment is they (tiles and insulation) don't pass any safety tests".

At least 79 people are missing and presumed dead from the conflagration. The forensic and recovery work, she said, could continue into 2018.

"We are looking at every criminal offence from manslaughter onwards, we are looking at every health and safety and fire safety offences and we are reviewing every company at the moment involved in the building and refurbishment of Grenfell Tower", she said.

According to the BBC, a Premier Inn spokesperson said: "We were extremely concerned to learn that they had used a cladding that does not appear to comply with recognised government guidance on compliance with the Building Regulations for use in high rise buildings and are seeking to address this with the developers".

Police said both the insulation and tiles used in cladding at the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block failed all post-fire safety tests.

Tests on the Grenfell cladding, carried out by Building Research Establishment, have been passed to the government. Tests so far have found that at.

The fire spread quickly through the tower block, leading to concerns that cladding on the building did not meet fire safety rules. The manufacturer will conduct further testing on the appliance, McCormack said.

Hundreds of people are working on the complex investigation and while a full visual search was completed last week, McCormack said a "full fingertip search" and other painstaking methods will be required.

As of Friday, nine victims have been formally identified. To help the recovery effort, police will install an elevator on Grenfell Tower's exterior next week, McCormack said.

McCormack also repeated calls for anyone with information on who might have been in the tower to come forward. "Some of those calls are over an hour long, and each call tells its own distressing story".

McCormack says: "What we haven't got is a picture of how many people might have been in there".

"We now have expert evidence that the fire was not started deliberately", McCormack told reporters in London.
