Otto Warmbier's grim fate is routine in hellish North Korea

Otto Warmbier's grim fate is routine in hellish North Korea”

The human rights group Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation is calling on the NBA to remove the 5-time champion from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. "Rodman continued this one-man PR campaign for North Korea even as his fellow American Otto Warmbier fought for his life".

Only days after he returned, the captive's family announced Otto's death after he was returned home in a vegetative state due to injuries he received from being tortured in a North Korean jail. Their own people receive the same treatment, or worse, on a daily basis. During his multiple visits to North Korea, which Rodman has described as "basketball diplomacy" trips, he's maintained both that he and Kim Jong-un are friends and that he hopes to create positivity with his visits.

Smith said Rodman's expulsion from the Hall of Fame would benefit the sport, and suggested a link between Rodman's visit and the timing of Warmbier's release.

"Removing Rodman from the Hall of Fame will send a message that all Americans are united against this regime", Smith told CNN. The release of Warmbier was apparently unrelated to the Worm's arrival. "Individuals that praise murderers have no place being idolized by America's youth or in any Hall of Fame in the United States". Rodman, a ferocious rebounder and defensive player whose career was far more colorful off the court, was inducted in 2011. Former NFL player O.J. Simpson remains in the Pro Football Hall of Fame despite a murder accusation, and a conviction for armed robbery and kidnapping.

John didn't stop there, saying that not only has Dennis not damaged the integrity of the hall (grounds for removal, according to the rules) but his offbeat behavior has only made basketball better.

As of Wednesday morning, the petition had over 600 supporters of 1,000 sought.

Rodman has always been known for his eccentricities, but this has gone too far.

Rodman set a record by leading the National Basketball Association in rebounds per game for seven consecutive seasons from 1991 to 1998, according to the Hall of Fame.
