Palestinians killed in Jerusalem attacks

Palestinians killed in Jerusalem attacks”

The Islamic State group on Saturday claimed responsibility for the fatal stabbing of an Israeli policewoman outside Jerusalem's Old City. Two attacked a group of police officers at Zedekiah's Cave, and a third stabbed Malka a short distance away at Damascus Gate.

Three Palestinians were shot dead, on Friday evening, after stabbing and opening fire on Israeli soldiers, killing one and mildly wounding another, in Sultan Suleiman Street, near Bab al-Amoud (Damascus Gate), in occupied Jerusalem. Another Israeli officer was wounded in the attack. This is a developing story. "The attack in Jerusalem is renewed proof of the continued revolution of the people against the occupier, and that the intifada continues until full freedom is attained", the group said in a statement.

The policewoman was stabbed and critically injured and later died in hospital of her wounds.

"With God's help, we succeeded in carrying out an attack in the heart of Jerusalem", the group said.

The attackers were identified by the Shin Bet internal security agency as Bra'a Salah and Asama Atta, both born in 1998, and Adel Ankush, born the following year.

In addition, dozens of soldiers surrounded and completely isolated Deir Abu Mashal village.

Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas spokesman, said the ISIL claim was an attempt to "muddy the waters", adding that the attack was carried out by "two Palestinians from the PFLP and a third from Hamas", AFP news agency reported.

Netanyahu canceled the family visits at the recommendation of Chief of Police Roni Alsheich and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, according to a police statement.

It took place as Muslims marked the end of the third Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan, during which tens of thousands of Palestinians from east Jerusalem and the West Bank attended prayers at the nearby Al-Aqsa mosque compound, Islam's third-holiest site. Israel blames the violence on incitement by the Palestinian leadership. The Palestinian Authority, which exercises limited self-rule in the West Bank, denies that and says assailants have acted out of frustration over Israeli occupation of land sought by Palestinians in peace talks that have been stalled since 2014.
