Most of the 18 opposition parties, which had come together for the objective of the presidential election, and had met on June 14, are now scheduled to meet again at the Parliament Annexe tomorrow (June 22), and this time Congress president Sonia Gandhi is also expected to attend and chair the meeting at the Parliament Library.

And very wisely on 19 June 2017, BJP party president, Amit Shah declared Ram Nath Kovind the candidate to contest for the President of India from NDA.

"Ramnath Kovind is best fit for the job and we have supported him based on his credentials", Panneerselvam said.

The President has accepted the resignation of Ramnath Kovind as the Governor of Bihar a day after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) named him as its Presidential nominee. "Various permutation and combination are being looked at", a Left leader said and maintained that the Congress camp has been insisting on fielding a leader with Congress background - like Mr Shinde, former Union Home Minister and ex-Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Meira Kumar, the former Lok Sabha Speaker.

When asked if he would vote for the Opposition candidate, Veerendrakumar said "first let us know who is the candidate". "Whoever would be the protector of the Constitution should be above caste and religion", he said adding that his party would attend the opposition's meeting on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee didn't seem happy with the Kovind's candidature. He has said that the JD (U) will convey their decision at the meeting in Delhi on June 22.

The Shiv Sena, a key constituent of the BJP-led coalition, on Tuesday said it would back the BJP's presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind, saying he is a "simple and decent human being".
