Spieth leads by one at Travelers

Spieth leads by one at Travelers”

Sixth-ranked Spieth, the 2015 Masters and US Open champion, fired a final-round par 70 to finish 72 holes level with Berger on 12-under 268 at TPC River Highlands near Hartford, Connecticut.

CROMWELL Jordan Spieth became the third wire-to-wire victor in the 65-year history of the Travelers Championship on Sunday, but it was accomplished with probably the greatest shot in the history of the tournament.

Ai Miyazato, of Japan, sinks her putt on the 15th hole during the third round of the LPGA Wal-Mart NW Arkansas Championship golf tournament at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., Sunday, June 25, 2017.

Boo Weekley worked his way up the leaderboard after shooting a 65 to finish at 11 under.

Spieth saw his lead evaporate with bogeys on 13 and 14, but he regained his composure with birdies on 15 and 16.

Former world number one Spieth missed a couple of short putts in a round marred by two dropped shots at the par-five 13th where his drive sailed out-of-bounds, but he also had his high moments, including a 35-foot birdie at the third. I've never seen 18 that full and I've never seen (hole) 1 that crowded when Jordan teed off today.

The win means Spieth joins Tiger Woods as only the second golfer in the modern era to earn 10 PGA Tour victories before the age of 24.

He said, look, this one, I don't want you dropping to any negative thoughts.

Spieth, who began on the back nine, birdied the par-4 12th but pulled his tee shot well left at the par-5 13th and took a penalty stroke on the way to a double bogey. It was a great up and down in regulation, I got really lucky obviously to hit a tree and for it to go in the fairway (in the playoff against Daniel Berger). He followed up a 75 in the first round with a 67 and finished at 2 over.

Play was delayed Saturday after morning rain, but the first groups started at 10:45 a.m. and the sky was clear by late morning. Day was cooking with three birdies in his first six holes before faltering. The consistent Englishman shot a four-under 66, despite being one over through his first seven holes.

"It wasn't as windy, so I made birdies on three of my first four holes", Pan said.

McIlroy picked up shots a two, three and six in CT before birdies at 11,12, 13 and 15.

He won in Memphis two weeks ago before missing the cut at the U.S. Open, which was won by his Florida State teammate, Brooks Koepka. "I didn't feel like it was harder than yesterday".
