Sunday shows omit key consequences of GOP Senate health care bill

While the Congressional Budget Office has yet to release an analysis of the Senate bill, similar Medicaid provisions outlined in the House bill were projected to result in more than $800 billion in federal funds being cut from Medicaid over the next 10 years.

U.S. President Donald Trump has again branded Democrats as "obstructionists" for not working with Republicans to reach a deal to replace what's commonly known as ObamaCare.

The Senate revision largely mirrors the House bill passed in early May with slashes to Medicaid and Planned Parenthood funding. "You got folks with a health coverage card but no care because you can't afford deductibles", Price said.

The Senate legislation resembles a bill the House approved in May that the budget office said would result in 23 million additional Americans without coverage by 2026. All they do is delay and complain.

"It's hard for me to see the bill passing this week", Collins said.

Over the weekend, senators and their aides were poring over the bill, drafting possible amendments, preparing speeches, and compiling personal stories from constituents who they portrayed as either beneficiaries or victims of the Affordable Care Act.

Then he criticizes two prominent Democratic senators. It would also slap annual spending caps on the overall Medicaid program, which since its inception in 1965 has provided states with unlimited money to cover eligible costs.

Johnson was one of four senators who said Thursday, hours after the plan became public, that they were "not ready to vote for this bill".

That's not sitting well with GOP Sen.

Jen McGowan, associate director of the Chicago chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, said Medicaid cuts in the proposal would hurt the hundreds of thousands of people in IL who suffer from mental health or substance abuse problems, and are enrolled in coverage under the Affordable Care Act. But, as tallied by the New York Times, five Republican Senators-most of them staunch fiscal conservatives-have already said they will not support the current version of the bill. It eliminates the individual mandate that forced people to get health insurance, repeals Obamacare taxes on insurers and the wealthy, and gives states more power to administer their own Medicaid programs. "I'm not voting for something that looks just like Obamacare".

Trump said he thought Republicans in the US Senate were doing enough to push through the bill and criticised Democrats for their opposition.

"I think right now - with President [Donald] Trump's shocking upset of the establishment still fresh in our minds - would be a good time for Congress to add a new ingredient to its legislative sausage: a dash of humility".

Trump says he believes his majority party is "going to get there". "We don't have too much of a choice, because the alternative is the dead carcass of Obamacare".

Johnson's remarks came in a nationally televised interview on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Speaking to "Fox & Friends", Trump claimed that former President Barack Obama only called the draft bill "mean" because he did it first.

He said they had "at best, a 50-50 chance".

Schumer said Democrats have been clear they will cooperate with Republicans if they agree to drop a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and instead work to improve it.
