The first 'Transformers: The Last Knight' reviews are in

While the story line could have proven complicated, "The Last Knight" does an excellent job tying together different time periods: the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, Merlin the Magician, and Nazi Germany. It looks like Paramount Studios, the producers of Transformers 5, want to create a Transformers universe, which will give them the opportunity to make sequels, prequels and spin-offs, and keep the franchise growing (and of course profitable). The "Transformers: The Last Knight" star says his 13-year-old daughter Ella Rae has caught the eye of a boy and whilst he was nothing but "polite and well prepared", Mark still feels protective over his daughter.

If you decide to check out the movie anyway, watch it for Anthony Hopkins.

One of the best characters this time around is Downton Abby's Jim Carter as a steampunk-esque version of C-3PO named Cogman.

Thanks to ever-growing box-office figures in worldwide markets rather than here at home, the future is Optimus Prime-big. Maybe in the future, he'll return, but we're hoping he doesn't. Ye olde wizard offers some drunk history on the magic of his staff. The script makes even less. United States reviews were embargoed until late Tuesday evening. The romance involves the beloved yet failed inventor, Yaeger, and the intellectual scholar Vivian Wembley, played by Laura Haddock.

Also returning to the mix are human franchise staples Colonel William Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and Agent Simmons (John Turturro) - now inexplicably in a position of power in Cuba - and robot regular Bumblebee (Erik Aadahl) and "Age of Extinction" Autobots Hound (an enjoyable John Goodman), a heavy-weapons specialist, and the more than-vaguely Asian warrior Drift (Ken Watanabe). If this is truly the last outing for Bay as director of the franchise, he goes out the only way he knows how with a big brainless outing that will always have fans wondering what could have been if someone else was in charge. Hold the hallelujahs: Bay has set a pattern that can go on poisoning the well as long this stuff turns a profit.

Peter Travers, RollingStone: "My dream is that this whole tapped-out robo series will transform into a turd and audiences will have the good sense to flush it". The movie pulls out all the stops and gives you epic fight scenes featuring metal dragons, gods, knights in rusty armor, the end of the world and valiant humans doing stupid things like taking on 28-foot-tall metal robots with just guns.
