Top Republican to press for $705 billion defense budget

The bill, which was written behind closed doors, is facing its fair share of criticism from Democrats who say that it negatively mimics the House's plan. Sen.

Earlier during the show on Sunday, presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway, defending the Senate bill, said the measure did not make $800 billion in cuts to Medicaid, but after questioning by Stephanopoulos, qualified her remarks.

Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana echoed Toomey's comments, saying people will move off the Medicaid expansion into the private health insurance market.

The analysis of the bill might not end up being relevant to the final bill that passes the Senate.

An outside political group aligned with the White House, America First Policies, said it is planning an advertising campaign targeting Heller for his opposition to the bill.

The bill also would reduce or eliminate subsidies for millions of Americans on the exchange, subsidies that allow them to have insurance, stay healthy and keep working.

Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz speaks out on the Senate's latest version of the health care bill that would replace Obamacare.

"Based on what I've seen. the Senate bill is going to have more impact on the Medicaid program than the House bill", Collins said.

Several Democrats have admitted Obamacare needs fixing, but that abandoning it for the Republican replacement - known formally as the American Health Care Act - is not a viable option.

Sen. Susan Collins of ME reiterated her opposition to language blocking federal money for Planned Parenthood, which many Republicans oppose because it provides abortions. In addition, the proposed changes to Medicaid financing for people who were newly covered under Obamacare and those in the standard Medicaid program are dramatic. I don't know that they would come down but they wouldn't go up as fast.

And in a separate statement, Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown says the GOP Senate bill would hamper the state's progress in slowing the opioid epidemic, calling Medicaid the "number one tool" in the fight against opioids.

He said they had "at best, a 50-50 chance".

Voting yes on the Senate health care bill would be a vote directly against me, my family and all Pennsylvanians.

"We're anxious about the burden it creates for the states", Kristine Grow, spokeswoman at America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), said on Friday.

Heller, like four other GOP senators who announced their opposition to the Obamacare repeal bill that was unveiled Thursday, left the door open to negotiations. "Make sure we're taken care of here in the state of Nevada", Heller said.

But the measure so far has failed to garner enough support to pass with only Republican votes - although the party has a majority in the Senate - after a handful of GOP lawmakers revolted.

We're going to have to see what the Congressional Budget Office says about what this would do the insurance system and what it would do the federal deficit.

In the broadcast interview, Trump did not indicate what types of changes to the Senate bill may be in store, but affirmed that he had described a House-passed bill as "mean".
