Trump confirms he called the Republicans' healthcare bill 'mean'

At least five GOP Senators say they won't vote for it in its current form, but are open to negotiating.

Ernst declined to comment on any other provisions during a news conference at the Iowa Capitol, saying, "We have 142 pages to go through". But I think we're going to get it.

Five Republican senators have announced they will not support the bill, which is created to repeal and replace Obamacare, in its current form.

To pass the Senate, with unanimous Democratic opposition expected, Republicans can only afford two defectors. Erasing Obama's law has been a marquee pledge for Trump and virtually the entire party for years, and failure would be a shattering defeat for the GOP.

If three Republicans defect, the party can not reach the majority vote it needs to pass the measure. Adults 50 to 65, who don't get health insurance from their employer, will likely face higher premiums.

"No argument against Trumpcare is more eloquent than the grave consequences it means in people's lives", she wrote colleagues.

The Senate's proposal would eliminate or reduce key benefits provided by the Affordable Care Act; lower taxes for the wealthy;strip funding from the women's reproductive health provider Planned Parenthood; and dramatically cut and restructure the Medicaid public health insurance program for low-income and disabled Americans.

The Senate bill maintains much of the structure of the House's but differs in key ways.

The group said in a statement Friday it's encouraged that the Senate bill would take immediate action to stabilize shaky insurance markets by guaranteeing billions of dollars in subsidies under jeopardy due to a legal dispute and political maneuvering.

Johnson, elected in 2010 running against Obamacare, also said on NBC's "Meet The Press" program that the debate on revising health care has not been based on facts. Johnson said Friday he will not pledge his support for his bill until he knows more. "We'll have to see". Critics of the bill say those increases will not keep up with rising health care costs. Sen.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins and some others are anxious about the bill rolling back Obamacare's expansion of Medicare and putting limits on federal funding of the program. "Johnson also said he is" not necessarily on board with all of the tax cuts" proposed in the bill either.

While discussing the Republican health bill during an interview that aired Sunday on Fox & Friends, Trump said it would be great if lawmakers from both parties could "come up something that everybody's happy with". It contains some key differences from the version the House passed last month.
