Richard Jefferson will return to Cavs for 2017-18 season”

Forward Richard Jefferson announced on his "Road Trippin'" podcast that he will return for his third season with the Cavaliers and 17th overall.

The 37-year-old Jefferson will make $2.5 million dollars next season. A source close to the Cavs said Jones would not be back in 2016-17. Jones played sparingly last season, averaging just under eight minutes per contest in 46 regular season appearances. Jones' agent, Joel Bell, said neither the team nor Jones had made a decision about his return.

Jones, 36, has played with James for the last seven seasons, going to seven consecutive NBA Finals and winning three championships with the Miami Heat and Cavs. It means that like LeBron, Jones has gone to seven straight Finals. He will also save the Cavs some money because the team would have to fill his spot on the 12-man roster with all or part of the taxpayer's mid-level exception ($5.2 million) or with a veteran's minimum contract that would probably be higher than what they'll pay Jefferson. Jones accounted for just 2.8 points per game, but his presence within the locker room has always been valued by the Cavaliers - most especially LeBron James. He averaged over 20 minutes per game, posting 5.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and one assist per game.

"I told J.J., as long as I'm playing, he's going to be around", James said in December, 2015, per's Dave McMenamin. "I love him. He's the greatest teammate I've ever had". Cleveland, now being led by Koby Altman, has re-signed Kyle Korver and signed Jose Calderon this summer.
