Wimbledon 2017: Garbine Muguruza beats Svetlana Kuznetsova, enters semi-finals”

Seven-time victor Roger Federer reached his 50th Grand Slam quarter-final, with top seed and British defending champion Andy Murray making it to the Wimbledon last-8 for the 10th consecutive time.

Bidding to become the oldest champion in the open era, Williams slammed eight aces and dropped serve only once in the 73-minute encounter.

Garbine Muguruza powered into her second Wimbledon semi-final in the last three years with an emphatic 6-3, 6-4 win over Russian seventh seed Svetlana Kuznetsova on Tuesday.

Runner-up to Serena Williams in 2015, Muguruza has emerged from a form slump to reach her first grand slam semi-final since reigning at Roland Garros previous year.

In Tennis, world number one Angelique Kerber and Rafael Nadal have made shocking pre-quarterfinal exits from the Wimbledon Championships, the third Grand Slam of the season, in London.

The 2015 Wimbledon finalist Muguruza, seeded No.14, is now set to play against the victor between Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova and American Coco Vandeweghe.

She was immediately punished as Muguruza did not make the same mistake in the subsequent game, breaking Kuznetsova to love, before serving with aplomb to forge a one-set lead in the quarter-final.

The 23-year-old, coached by compatriot and former Wimbledon victor Conchita Martinez, broke Kuznetsova in the fourth game of the first set, an advantage she never looked like relinquishing.
