England U19s 2 - Portugal 1: England win European U19s Championship final

England U19s 2 - Portugal 1: England win European U19s Championship final”

England won the European Under-19 Championship with a 2-1 victory over Portugal in the final in Georgia.

However, Portugal drew level soon after when Chelsea's Dujon Sterling somehow volleyed into his own net.

As well as this and the under-20 World Cup victory, England's youngsters have also won the Toulon Tournament this summer.

And the U19s did the business in Georgia tonight with goals from Aston Villa's Easah Suliman and Manchester City's Lukas Nmecha.

Things weren't exactly plain sailing for Keith Downing's men, who had to play out the game's final minutes with ten men following a second yellow card for Fulham's Tayo Edun.

The opening exchanges at the Tengiz Burjanadze Stadium in Gori were cagey.

Here's the victorious England U19 side.

Buckley-Ricketts shot over following a positive run from Nmecha before Ryan Sessegnon pulled a shot across the face of goal.

England went ahead in the 50th minute.

Suliman handed England the lead when heading home a rebound after Mason Mount's free-kick hit the post.

Portugal, though, were not behind for long.

Abdu Conte sent over a deep ball from the left flank, which drifted through towards the far post, where Sterling sliced it past team-mate Ramsdale.

The Under-19s reached the final having topped their group before beating the Czech Republic and Germany in the knockout stages.

However, Downing's side were in danger of losing their composure as Quina saw his goalbound effort saved.

But England took the lead with their first foray forward of the second half after Lukas Nmecha was bundled off the ball by Rui Pires, earning a free-kick 35 yards from goal.

Portugal substitute Miguel Luis came closest to forcing extra time, but his shot from the edge of the box found the side-netting before Madi Queta's flicked header was blocked by a defender a couple of yards in front of the line.
