Man dies after vehicle strikes tree, catches fire

The vehicle caught fire after the crash, Calhoun County sheriff's deputies said.

It happened Friday, July 14 around 11:20 p.m in the 2100 block of 9 Mile Road just outside of Burlington. A man was found inside the vehicle, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash is under investigation, but deputies say based on statements from witnesses, alcohol and speed may have played a role.

We're told the driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries. The auto then caught fire.

The name of the fatal victim has not been released pending a positive identification and the notification of family members.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.
