Cavaliers were close to acquiring Paul George, but Pacers backed out”

One of those that was long linked to George was the Cavaliers, who reportedly failed to find enough assets for Kevin Love that could be sent to IN in a three-team deal.

The Cleveland Cavaliers haven't done much to bolster their roster this offseason, but they reportedly nearly made a major move.

Wojnarowski appeared on Sportscenter as well as The Jump on Tuesday reporting that the Cavaliers acting GM Koby Altman was very close to nabbing Paul George on the night of June 30.

Wojnarowski, however, said IN "backed out of it and did the Oklahoma City deal", trading George to the Thunder IN one of the blockbuster moves of this offseason.

Right or wrong (wrong), the Pacers accepted what they believed was their best offer.

But the Pacers elected to ship George to the Thunder for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis, leaving the Cavs searching for ways to improve the NBA's oldest roster in order to maximize their remaining time with James.

Now, maybe a long-term general manager would've better finessed the deal - convincing IN that the Cavs' offer was superior or adding the necessary ingredients.

There's a lot of things we don't know about this report, which really raises more questions than it answers. That'd be quite frustrating.
