Senate to vote on health care bill amid confusion

Senate to vote on health care bill amid confusion”

When Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tried to push through a pure Obamacare repeal bill that lacked a replacement, after months of trouble to pass a repeal-and-replace measure, those three senators effectively ended his efforts by announcing they opposed the plan.

This is problematic for all those republicans in congress who ran on a platform of repealing and replacing Obamacare.

That's because if republicans called a straight up and down vote on repealing the Affordable Care Act right now, they would lose. Both proposals have received harsh criticism from moderate and conservative Republicans alike.

Collins, Capito and Murkowski all expressed reservations about the bill, but Collins was the only one to explicitly say she would vote against a motion to proceed on both versions of the legislation.

"I think it would be absolutely ridiculous for Congress to try to place the blame on the President for the inability to get their job done".

Senate votes today on health care...or does it? It comes after McConnell struggled to get enough votes for a Senate replacement bill that failed to get enough votes for a debate last week with the help of Sen. The bill is likely to include a repeal of Obamacare's individual mandate and the medical device tax.

Now that the bill has been brought to the floor, senators are expected to debate various options of repeal.

Collins said she had not heard about the so-called "skinny" ObamaCare repeal plan until a reporter asked about it.

"Any senator who votes against starting debate is telling Americans that you are fine with the Obamacare nightmare", Trump said.

"For Senate Republicans, this is their chance to keep their promise", Trump said.

And now, Trump has put the pressure on GOP republicans to pass a heath care bill, the contents of which are unknown to the Senate itself.

The CBO estimated the bill would result in 22 million more people losing their insurance by 2026 and, in a separate report, estimated that Medicaid would be cut by 35 percent come 2036. Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Regardless of what happens with the health-care bill, the Senate is scheduled next to launch debate on the National Defense Authorization Act, annual legislation that determines the scope and cost of US military operations around the world. But the earlier repeal bill, per the CBO, would have left 32 million fewer people without insurance.
