Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh assures action into minister acquiring state land”

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Tuesday assured to take a strict action against state minister Brijmohan Agrawal, whose wife has been accused of acquiring the state's forest land for constructing a resort, adding that the matter has been taken to the collector and detailed report will be asked for.

Singh said, "We'll take up this issue within our party and if they are found guilty, they'll have to resign " Speaking to ANI on the same, forest authorities have said that a probe has been ordered for this case and that they will come up with the results really soon. Ironically, one of those departments is handled by Agrawal's husband, who is now the Minister for Agriculture, Water Resources and Religious Trusts and Endowments. He was the Minister of School Education, Public Works Department, Parliamentary Affairs, Tourism, and Culture, when his wife brought the land. These two companies are now constructing the resort, Shyam Vatika, at the forest land. It is believed that Agarwal's Ministry has recognised this area as a potential tourist destination. Both Sarita Agarwal and her son Abhishek are directors of Aditya Srijan Private Limited and Purbasa Vanijya Private Limited that are constructing the resort, Shyam Vatika, on the plot.

Meanwhile on March 16, 2017, when the collector asked the Chief Secretary about the irregularity, it emerged that the land was actually given to the forest department, but since the name change in revenue records was "laxity", it remained in the name of the original owner Vishnu Ram, who then sold it to Sarita Agrawal.

Records show that the union ministry of environment and forests gave preliminary clearance to this transfer on 2 May 1994. Moreover after nine years, Rs 22.90 lakh was spent on the deforestation of this land.

According to the report, Sarita Agrawal, wife of Chhattisgarh Minister and BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal, bought the land in 2009 from the same farmer who had donated the land to the state government back in 1994.

Incidentally, this 4.12 hectares finds mention in the 2013 election affidavit of Brijmohan Agrawal with the affidavit listing the land as registered to his wife.

The land was later transferred to the forest department.

In August 2016, Chandranahu sent a second complaint that the land had been bought by Sarita Agrawal.
