Amy Schumer responds to Anne Hathaway's 'Barbie' movie casting: "She's perfect"

Amy Schumer responds to Anne Hathaway's 'Barbie' movie casting:

Anne Hathaway is a literal Oscar victor - which is great for her, but honestly we are craving some supreme trashiness from this movie and we think Anne is probably above that. Schumer was originally supposed to step into Barbie's heels, but announced in March that she had to step down from the titular role because she was working on other projects. It's unclear if the storyline will be altered with a new star playing the part.

Amy did a rewrite of the script, but it's not known if her edits will remain.

"Sadly, I'm no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts", she said in a statement to Variety.

"When I look in the mirror I know who I am", she wrote.

Schumer initially stepped into Barbie's heels in December (16) and then had to defend her casting after fat-shaming online trolls suggested the casting was all wrong.

The Trainwreck star took to Instagram amid reports on Tuesday, posting a makeup free selfie and a message regarding her potential replacement. Where's the shame? It's not there. The publication also claimed Australian director Alethea Jones is in talks to helm the comedy, though studio reps say no deal is in place yet. The live-action movie adaptation is being produced by Amy Pascal, Laurie MacDonald and Walter F. Parkes, while Mattel's president and chief operating officer, Richard Dickson, is executive producing.

The project - which was expected to go into production June 23 for a June 2018, release - remained in limbo after Schumer dropped out, until recently.
