Amazon to hire 50000 nationwide, some in Ohio”

The Amazon center in town will be one of 12 locations nationwide to hold a four-hour job blitz in which the company plans to hire 50,000 new employees.

Almost 40,000 of the 50,000 jobs offered across the county will be full-time.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced it's intentions to hire an additional 5,000 people, with the aim of letting them all work from home, which was seen as an ambitious target.

It's planning to make thousands of offers on the spot on August 2, when it opens the doors to potential hires at 10 Amazon.com Inc. shipping sites. Retailers are facing a tighter job market; the nation's unemployment rate is 4.4 percent, near a 16-year low.

As their staff levels reportedly reached 341,000 in February, even with tomorrow's huge expansion, Amazon is not by any means the the largest United States employer - Wal-Mart have over two million employees.

"There are just not as many available bodies, " Chamberlain said. As of the second quarter of 2017, Amazon had a total of 382,400 employees (full-time and part-time, excluding contractors and temporary personnel), a 42.2 percent year-over-year increase.

Amazon is preparing to keep up with increasing customer demand, with plans to hire a 130,000 workers through 2018. It is offering a starting rate of $13 an hour for a full-time job in Baltimore and $12.25 an hour for a similar position in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The job fair will take place next Wednesday from 8 a.m.to noon local time and will include tours and sessions with company representatives.
