Pete Rose won't participate in Phillies Alumni weekend”

Pete Rose will not be inducted onto the Phillies Wall of Fame during Alumni Weekend, according to WIP's Howard Eskin.

Due to recent events, the Phillies and Pete Rose have decided that Pete will not participate in the Phillies Alumni Weekend festivities to be held at Citizens Bank Park on August 10-13, 2017.

Rose was accused of having a sexual relationship with a woman in the 1970's before she turned 16, according to court documents obtained by ESPN.com.

The unidentified woman said in a sworn statement she had sexual relations with Rose before turning 16. Rose has claimed to believe the woman was of the legal age during their relationship, which allegedly occurred while he was married and in his mid-30s.

The Phillies also won't distribute Rose bobbleheads during the events, which last from August 10 - 13.

To replace Rose's induction, the Phillies will pay tribute to former Wall of Fame inductees Saturday, August 12. Sunday, more than 40 alumni will be recognized on the field and all fans in attendance will receive a Wall of Fame card pack.

Fans with tickets to the August 11 game or August 12 game can exchange their tickets for any remaining 2017 games or receive a refund at any Citizens Banks Park sales window, or by mailing their tickets to The Phillies, One Citizens Bank Way, Philadelphia, PA 19148.

The accusation is a part of John Dowd's defense after Rose filed a defamation case against the former MLB special counsel, who led the investigation into the former MLB player's baseball gambling while manager of the Cincinnati Reds. Dowd had claimed in a radio interview that Rose had underage girls brought to spring training for him during his playing days, and his report in 1989 included evidence of Rose betting on baseball, leading to his lifetime ban from the game.
