NASA hiring real-life Man in Black to fight aliens”

The position is called Planetary Protection Officer (PPO) and pays between $124,406 and $187,000 a year.

Want the coolest job in the world?

There are mundane responsibilities too, including keeping NASA brass up-to-date on "aliens" and come up with new protection standards. It's a position that, on the surface, sounds like what Will Smith did in Men In Black.

On the flip side, the Planetary Protection Officer will be on the look out for any contamination from outside our atmosphere looking to infiltrate our planet.

A fourth grader has already applied for the job.

The posting has gone viral after several media outlets, including The Business Insider and The Independent, reported that NASA was hiring someone to defend the earth from aliens. "Planetary protection is concerned with the avoidance of organicconstituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration", the advertisement said.

See, once we start landing on other planets and stuff, the astronauts need to really wipe their feet well to keep from bringing home some killer bug, spore or virus.

But even with the bad pun, you still might not guess what this position entails.

Part of the job will also be to travel to space centres around the world and inspect space-bound technology, making sure they're free of potentially harmful material.
