CBS Signs On With AT&T For DirecTV Now Service”

The company announced this morning it has reached an agreement with CBS that will allow it to live stream from local CBS and The CW stations in almost 25 USA markets. DirecTV Now launched last November as AT&T's foray into the low-priced skinny bundle sector. The deal also includes The CW.

DirecTV Now customers will have access to live local coverage for 25 live local CBS and The CW stations.

Financial terms of the CBS pact were not disclosed.

The AT&T-owned live streaming platform will have CBS-owned local television stations in numerous largest US markets at launch.

AT&T executives are touting the virtual service's ability to affect churn in other business areas, such as wireless.

Showtime will be available for an additional $8 per month, while the CW and regular CBS content will be completely available for no additional cost. Of course, the premium network is already available as a $10.99 per month standalone streaming service, and through other internet TV providers, including Amazon Channels, Hulu, Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, and YouTube TV, as well as CBS's own streaming service, CBS All Access. "For any bundle to be truly successful, CBS is must-have content, and we are happy that AT&T will bring our hit programming to their DIRECTV NOW offering".

The CBS deal brings primetime CBS hits such as The Big Bang Theory to DirecTV Now homes, as well as Thursday night and Sunday afternoon National Football League games.

DirecTV Now has almost 500,000 subscribers; it started with 260,000.
