Due to this rainfall, the rivers like Brahmaputra and its tributaries in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Northern tributaries of Ganga in Eastern UP, North Bihar are likely to rise and create low to high flood with unprecedented flood in few locations.

Following a brief reprieve, Assam was once again hit by a fresh wave of floods on Thursday as heavy rains battered the state leading to a deluge in at least 700 villages across 15 districts of the state affecting over 3.5 lakh people.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Kikrajhar, Dhubri, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivsagar, Charaideo, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts were affected.

Dhansiri North river is, however, likely to flow in high to unprecedented flood situation in Assams Darrang district, the Met department said.

The surging water have also affected 19,481.48 hectares of the agricultural lands. If reports are to be believed, two waves of floods have affected over 25 lakh people in 29 districts of Assam this year, with the administration setting up 1,098 relief camps and distribution centres in the state.

On the other hand, flood situation turned worsed in Kaziranga National Park as flood waters submerged more than 70 per cent areas of the national park.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who is New Delhi on Friday directed chief secretary to reach out to the flood affected people and intensify relief and rescue operations in the State. The Chief Secretary asked the DCs to visit the affected areas and if required open relief camps. He said the state government had sufficient funds to undertake relief operations, and asked the heads of the districts to inform him about their requirements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Assam to take stock of the flood situation.

The flood waters in Assam are slowly receding, although four districts (Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Charideo and Tinsukia) remain flooded with 28 996 people still affected.
