Trump says he is considering military response to Venezuelan crisis”

United States President Donald Trump on Friday said that he would not rule out a "military option" in Venezuela as the Latin American country descends further into civil unrest under the leadership of president Nicholas Maduro. "Venezuela is not far away", Trump said, referring to the close proximity of the country in Latin America.

Asked what options were available for the United States in dealing with Venezuela, which has descended into civil unrest under the leadership of president Nicholás Maduro, Trump responded by explicitly not ruling out military force.

The Pentagon, meanwhile, issued a statement saying they had not received any new orders regarding Venezuela.

It has been years - including Haiti in 2004 and Panama in 1989 and 1994 - since the last direct USA military interventions in Latin America.

As Politico reported, the U.S. Treasury Department has already hit Venezuela with a series of sanctions targeted at Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Senator Sasse, a member of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, said that Congress does not plan to authorize a US-led war in Venezuela.

"Mr. Donald Trump, here is my hand", the socialist president said, adding that he wants as strong a relationship with the U.S.as he has with Russian Federation.

Earlier Friday Trump even said he was considering military options as a response to the escalating political and economic crisis in Venezuela - an oil-rich country reduced to widespread poverty and shortages of food, medicine and other basics.

The US administration has been increasing pressure on Maduro in recent weeks, but especially since the election of the Constituent Assembly, imposing more individual sanctions on government officials, who have included the Venezuelan president himself.

But the day after expelling Venezuela's ambassador in Lima, Peru said force is not the answer.

Trump explained that he was "not going to rule out" a military option, adding that it was "certainly something that we could pursue".

Violent demonstrations since April have left more than 120 people dead in the country.

Trump's threat appeared to contradict the advice of his top national security adviser, General Herbert Raymond McMaster, who last week warned against giving Maduro ammunition to blame the "Yankees" for the situation in Venezuela.

Venezuela is in a state of turmoil as Maduro's party moves to strengthen its grip on power.

President Nicolas Maduro's new constituent assembly - which can rewrite the constitution and could override the opposition-controlled parliament - has been widely criticised as anti-democratic.
