Your health: Scientists may have found a peanut allergy cure”

The experimental treatment combines a probiotic with small daily doses of peanut protein.

A new therapy being tested to cure people of peanut allergies has reportedly resulted in a huge success among the children it was tested on. In the study's follow-up four years later, almost 70 percent of the children said they were still able to eat peanuts without having an allergic reaction. The researcher adds that the findings are suggesting the treatment is reliable and effective when it comes to long-term tolerance.

The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health journal published that from about 4 years on 70 percent people are able to take peanuts without any allergic reaction before which over 80 percent of people gone through the treatment has shown immediate decrease in allergic reactions.

Studies previously conducted on the problem have suggested that such treatment methods could be fruitful in reducing children's allergic anaphylactic shock reactions to peanuts, according to reports.

If confirmed by larger clinical studies, the broader hope is that the treatment can impact more food allergies among children.

Peanut allergies are relatively common, and plenty deadly for sufferers. The experiment was finished in 2013 and the results were more than satisfying: approximately 80% of the children were able to tolerate peanuts.

As many parents are aware, peanut allergy is one of the most life-threatening food allergies on the planet.

Ten-year-old Olivia May suffered a reaction when she tried to eat a peanut butter sandwich seven years ago. When she visited an allergist, they recommended clearing the house of all nuts and everything with nuts in it.

Two-thirds of allergic kids taking part safely consume peanuts in stunning trial.

"I think perhaps one of the best things has been to be able to just go to parties and I can drop her off or at a sleep over", Tanya May said.

"[But] to not have to worry about putting that responsibility in someone else's hands is a great relief".

The latest study tracked 48 of the 56 children who were enrolled in the original study, four years later.
