YouTube feed now has "Breaking News" section across all platforms for many

YouTube feed now has

YouTube is taking more efforts to stand out from today's crowd of online video service providers.

YouTube has introduced a "Breaking News" carousel to its mobile apps and homepage, a move that could indicate parent company Google wants to make it easier for users to source important content on a platform where 300 hours of video are uploaded every minute.

The Breaking News section includes a collection of videos about current affairs for each region and has reportedly rolled out to many users on Android, iOS, and desktop.

It's unclear if this section will only appear when a worldwide event such as the Barcelona incident occurs, or if it'll be an everyday thing. It would be interesting to see if YouTube can encash over this new feature.

While it is yet to be ascertained if the new tab is a temporary feature or here to stay, and whether it will generate its content through Google's algorithm or manually curate the same, the feature could prove to be beneficial to Gen-Z, owing to YouTube's growing popularity among them. In June, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki announced that the site had 1.5 billion watching an hour of video each on mobile alone.

It's also not clear whether the breaking news section only appears when there is actually any breaking news to talk about - YouTube hasn't made any official announcement on the new carousel and it's only been around for a day or two.

YouTube brings "breaking news" in its feed.
