Mercedes launches GT R and GT Roadster sportscars”

The country's leading luxury vehicle maker Mercedes-Benz India on Monday strengthened its position in the performance auto segment by launching two of the most fascinating sports cars available globally. Both the models were launched by Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes- Benz India.

This bright green torpedo you see here is the Mercedes-AMG GT R - a meaner, hungrier and more shredded version of the already not-so-slow Mercedes-AMG GT.

The GT R is comparably lighter than the Mercedes AMG GT S model owing to the titanium silencers and light-weight aluminium wheels. In the last 50 years, Mercedes-AMG consolidated its position as a highly successful sports auto and performance brand with numerous successes from motorsport to developing unique road-going vehicles.

The Mercedes GT Roadster boasts of 476 hp of power and 630Nm of torque, going from naught to 100kmph in four seconds. All that power is sent to the rear wheels via the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine powers the GT R to sprint from standstill to 100kmph in 3.6 seconds before reaching the top speed 317kmph.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R is powered by the a 4-litre bi-turbo V8 engine code-named M177 that is tuned to churn out 577 bhp and a whopping 700 Nm of peak torque. This engine enables the AMG GT Roadster to cover the 0-100 kmph run in 4.0 seconds, all the way up to an electronically limited top speed of 302 kmph. Bringing in the fastest cars from the fastest family in the world is proof of the increasing importance of India as a market and its potential for performance sports cars.

Mercedes-Benz also offers customizations for both the model under the Designo platform. "The AMG GT R and GT Roadster will combine driving dynamics of AMG GT3 and everyday practicality of the AMG GT", said Roland Folger, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz during the launch.
