New Hanover alum, Brown, scores long TD in ECU loss”

This is the second time Will Grier will face East Carolina.

Not a whole bunch.

The final score was nearly identical to the result the last time the Pirates played the Mountaineers in their home opener. And he's even moreso with all his weapons in place.

Travon Brown, a former New Hanover Wildcat stud wide receiver, scored a long touchdown in East Carolina's loss at West Virginia Saturday. Check back for full reports at the end of each quarter.

And Grier and Simms weren't the only Mountaineers having fun. The game kicks off at 12:00 PM EST in Milan Puskar Stadium, Morgantown, West Virginia. The West Virginia return game from Jennings was not much of a factor either, as he mostly had to fair catch his punts and take a knee on his kick-off returns. It came on the heels of a 31-24 loss to No. 18 Virginia Tech.

"I felt calm", said Jackson, the son of former longtime MI assistant coach Fred Jackson.

"I thought Will played well", Spavital said. Will they redeem themselves against West Virginia?

Josh Jackson passed for 235 yards, ran for 101 and accounted for two touchdowns in his first start for Virginia Tech, and the No. 21 Hokies made a last-second stand to beat No. 22 West Virginia 31-24 on Sunday night.

ECU entered halftime down by 46 points.

Grier was especially on point Saturday.

The Mountaineers continued to score at ease, finding the end zone once more in the first quarter, and then four more times in the second. "I think he's executing and has a great understanding". "It was an absolute blast. You can never be unhappy with a win for Mountaineer Nation". However, last week proved to be no fluke as ECU head coach Scottie Montgomery has a lot of work to do or he could be on the hot seat very soon. "He has a quick release that hurt us". They had a few drops or they would have had some more plays.

WVU wasted little time showcasing its high-powered offense, taking the opening kickoff and promptly marching 75 yards on nine plays. Quarterback Thomas Sirk led his team on a 70-yard, 15-play drive that culminated in a 23-yard field goal by Jake Verity.

The Mountaineer defense would get their first turnover of the year on a Kyzir White interception and Will Grier and the offense would take advantage. Ka'Raun White contributed 74 yards in four catches. Kennedy McKoy had 50 yards in eight Carries. On a first-and-10 situation from WVU's own 48, Grier threw a picture-perfect strike to the 6-foot sophomore in stride on a post pattern. While ECU is one of the lower tier teams in the FBS, it was still quite impressive to see what the Mountaineers did in Week 2. "You name it, we were not playing good football".

That doesn't apply to Sills, who finished with a career-high 153 yards.

"It was unbelievable, man", Grier said. "The way they were playing us, it was open. I don't know if the pressure got to me or what". "David Sills gets credit for that". "There are no moral victories, but we did get better in the second half". The Pirates have allowed an average of 616 yards in two games.

But ECU stalled after getting to within 7-3 and with the help of two Sirk interceptions, the Mountaineers put their foot on the gas and didn't let up until the game was well out of reach.

Opening night starter Gardner Minshew then came in and went 7 of 13 for 137 yards, 95 of which came on a touchdown pass to Trevon Brown - who got into the end zone for the first time since November 19, 2015 after being academically ineligible last season.
