Everton boss Koeman brands transfer market 'ridiculous'”

The Iceland worldwide, who has just turned 28, joined the Toffees in August from Swansea City for a club-record £45m including add-ons.

But the Everton boss will now have to make do without that target man.

"I'm getting to the stage of my career when I'll be playing my best football", he told Sky Sports News.

He continued: "It doesn't bother me (the fee) - but the money being spent in football is insane".

He joined the club in August and became their club-record signing, costing nearly £20m more than the previous record paid for Michael Keane the previous month.

"It doesn't bother me - but the money being spent in football is insane", he said.

"I don't mention names, because it is not my job to do names, but I was really disappointed about that option one, because everybody thought we had him". "I'm focused on doing the right things for the team".

The Toffees were one of the most impressive teams in the transfer market this summer as they recruited the likes of Jordan Pickford, Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane, Cuco Martina, Sandro Ramirez and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Despite a tough opening few fixtures, they've started the season in good form, taking four points from a possible nine, including a 1-1 draw away at Manchester City.

The 28-year-old said: "I think we have to be patient".

The Senegalese spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull City and could not get a move away from Goodison Park this summer prompting his demotion, but with the club lacking options in attack with the sale of Romelu Lukaku, the gaffer has chose to bring back the player into the first team.
