Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill is reportedly arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after being pulled over in Scotland on Sunday morning.

He allegedly failed a breath test and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on October 10. "As it is a police matter, the Association will be making no further comment".

Police Scotland said they arrested and charged a 48-year-old man in connection with drink-driving eastbound on the A720 at about 12.55 BST on Sunday.

When the Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings are released later this week, Northern Ireland are projected to be in the top 20 for the first time in their history having sunk as low as 129th three games into O'Neill's reign.

He guided his side to the last 16 in their first ever European Championship finals appearance - in France at Euro 2016.

His side lie second in their World Cup qualifiers group for Russian Federation next year.

O'Neill has guaranteed at least a play-off spot for his nation in their Russian Federation 2018 qualifying group - just a year after leading them to the finals of Euro 2016.

I signed a four-year contract.

Both of their remaining fixtures will take place just days before O'Neill's court date.

During his playing career, Mr O'Neill won 33 caps for Northern Ireland and scored seven goals.

He made history by becoming the first manager of a League of Ireland team to reach the group stages of the Europa League.
