Oklahoma moves up to No. 2 in AP poll behind Alabama”

Oklahoma moved up to No. 2 in The Associated Press college football poll behind Alabama after the Sooners scored the most impressive victory of week two.

Clemson is No. 2 in the Coaches Poll with Oklahoma at No. 3.

What moved the Oklahoma Sooners all the way to second place was the dominating manner of their win on the road against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Sooners jumped three spots after winning 31-16 at Ohio State.

The last time the Sooners were this close to being No. 1 in the AP poll was 2011. Clemson and USC were both impressive Saturday as well, putting them in the other top four spots. Penn State, who was ranked fourth, dropped one spot despite beating Pittsburgh, 33-14.

No. 1 Alabama, which coasted to a 41-10 victory over Fresno State on Saturday in its home opener in Bryant-Denny Stadium, received 59 first-place votes in the second Top 25 poll of the regular season.

West Virginia is safely in my poll even with their loss to Virginia Tech because one, they challenged themselves and two, they hung with the Hokies and almost pulled off that win and I think Virginia Tech is a very solid team. Ohio State dropped all the way to eighth after their loss to the Oklahoma Sooners, behind Washington and MI. They lost to Georgia, at home, 20-19, and fell from the poll.

The Buckeyes did extend their streak of 41 polls ranked in the top 10, which dates back to the November 9, 2014.

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame dropped out of the AP college football poll after just one week in the polls. The Irish were the only team to fall out of the rankings.

The Bruins stumbled to a four-win season past year, but quarterback Josh Rosen and the offense seem to be blossoming under new offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals almost beat the eventual national champions in Death Valley last season.

Florida State is No. 11, followed by LSU, Georgia, Louisville, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Miami, Kansas State, Stanford, TCU, Washington State, South Florida, Tennessee, Florida and UCLA.
