Liverpool to appeal length of Mane's ban

Liverpool to appeal length of Mane's ban”

Liverpool will not appeal the 25-year-old's dismissal but believe a three-match ban is too harsh for the incident.

Liverpool's Sadio Mane collides with City's keeper Ederson in their EPL match yesterday.

The Reds boss opted to hand the Estonia worldwide his first Premier League appearance of the 2017-18 season for the trip to their title rivals at the Etihad Stadium.

If successful, the ban could be reduced by one or two games.

Mane was given a straight red card by referee Jon Moss for his challenge and, despite Liverpool fans and some pundits claiming that the tackle didn't merit a sending off, Ederson's facial injuries prove otherwise.

Ederson required extensive treatment on the pitch after his sickening collision with Mane in City's 5-0 drubbing of Jurgen Klopp's side on Saturday, and had to be given oxygen as he was stretchered from the field as the first half drew to a close. I saw the goalie already and obviously it's not that bad. The goalkeeper comes out, Sadio wants the ball.

Always up for the big games, Liverpool took four points off City last season and you have to go back to 2014 since City prevailed over their Merseyside rivals in the league (but let's not forget the League Cup final win in 2016!).

"I'm not sure it's quite that easy, but if it is - if we bring him (Coutinho) in and then everything is great again - then that's cool", said Klopp, defending the reasoning for initially prolonging his absence. "I hope people will see it without me having to do anything".
