FHC gets grant for mental health, drug services”

Speaking at one of those local recipients, Goodwin Community Health in Somersworth, Price said this is just one of several steps the Trump administration plans to take as part of a national effort to address the opioid crisis.

Some substance abuse service providers have anxious that government haggling over aid could cost them significant chunks of their budget.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded more than $200 million to more than 1,170 health centers and 13 rural health organizations in every US state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Pacific Basin to boost access to substance abuse and mental health services.

Southeast Lancaster Health Services in Lancaster will receive $154,278 from the grant and Welsh Mountain Health Services in new Holland will get $85,200, it was announced. Price said he expects that a national emergency will be declared soon. "The Trump Administration is taking strong, decisive action to respond to the crisis caused by the opioid epidemic".

"The grant will fund services that focus on the treatment, prevention and awareness of opioid abuse in primary care settings, allowing health centers to add staff, better use health information technology and provide training".

While administrators at Goodwin said they are grateful for the added funding, they're much more anxious about a bigger chunk of their budget.

The Berks Community Health Center has three sites in Reading.

Critics continued to hammer away at the White House for the lack of an official declaration of emergency.
