Suspect in New Haven officer-involved shooting released from hospital, officially charged”

The New Haven man who allegedly shot a woman and two police officers last Saturday was released from the hospital and officially charged on Friday. So the state police - who are investigating the incident and thus in charge of public information - continue to withhold some of the basic kind of information usually released about such criminal incidents, including what happened when the SWAT team entered the house to arrest the man, where he was shot, and how many times.

About 6:15 a.m. Friday, New Haven Police notified State Police that Monroe was being released from Yale-New Haven Hospital where he had been since September 23rd. He was processed at New Haven Police Headquarters and later arraigned at Superior Court in New Haven.

The arrest warrant was sealed. Monroe was held on a $900,000 bond.

At 10:20 a.m., police responded to the location on a report of gunfire.

The two officers Monroe allegedly shot were treated and released from the hospital.

His wife, retired state Department of Correction employee, suffered gunshot wounds to her hand, arm, back and chest and was in critical condition after surgery the day of the shooting, Officer David Hartman said. Police blocked off about an eight-block area and evacuated nearby residents using an armored vehicle.

Monroe has not been charged yet in the shooting of two police officers, Eric Pessino and Scott Shumway, and attempted shooting of SWAT team members during an hours-long standoff, state police said.

Because the incident included an officer-involved shooting, the investigation was turned over to the Major Crimes Squad of Connecticut State Police.
