Won't allow bullet train: Raj

Won't allow bullet train: Raj”

Thackeray warned the Centre and the Maharashtra government that his party won't let even a single brick be laid for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project, until basic infrastructure is provided to Mumbai citizens.

Attacking the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he called Modi a "liar" who changed all his statements before and after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Also, why do we need terrorists or enemies like Pakistan?

Raj Thackeray also held responsible migrants from other states for the collapse of infrastructure in the city.

Twenty-two commuters were killed in Mumbai on Friday when a horrific stampede broke out on a narrow railway foot overbridge linking Elphinstone Road and Parel stations when hundreds took shelter there to escape pounding rains, officials said.

Thackeray announced that he would personally lead a morcha to Church Gate on October 5 to oppose the Bullet Train plans and urged all Mumbaikars to participate in large numbers. "They (Railway) say the stampede happened due to rains". Drawing attention to the recommendations of the committee formed under former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar, which submitted its report in 2012, and recommended Rs 1 lakh crore to be spent on safety measures on railways in five years, Thackeray said, "Then Congress didn't act on his report and now the BJP has completely overlooked it and is spending the exact amount on fancy projects like the bullet train".

He also said the Railways Minister should take pledge for rail safety and not for bullet train.

He claimed he did not visit the stampede spot or the hospital yesterday as "politicians are there at such spots only for television cameras".

"A list of issues related to Mumbai locals will be given to Railway on 5 Oct with a deadline. If things don't get better, will see to it".

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal directed the chief railway safety officer of the Western Railway to initiate an inquiry into the incident. "I have ordered a high-level enquiry into the matter", Goyal told media gathered outside the Mumbai International airport on Friday.
