Donald Trump: NFL Shoulda Suspended Kaepernick for Kneeling”

Many of us today still kneel in prayer.

Owners who participated in protests stood on the field very publicly with their teams during the national anthem, making their participation well-known and clearly documented. So let's break this down.

President Donald Trump said the NFL should have suspended former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick when he began his campaign to sit during the national anthem.

Undoubtedly, Americans can show devotion to their country by showing reverence to the flag and the National Anthem.

He's protesting police brutality against minorities and the fact this country hasn't done a thing to stop it.

And if the Cowboys carry out their threat to bench protesters? As the season went on, more players joined him and voiced their opinions, but by the end of the season, Kaeprnick found himself out of a job. Kaepernick explained at the time that he was protesting racial injustice and police violence against back people.

Days days later, more than 200 National Football League players demonstrated during the anthem in protest. a 20-fold increase over the number of players who demonstrated in Week 1.

That part seems to leave most people's mind. This form of expression is undoubtedly protected by the First Amendment.

The comments from the president are his latest response to a controversy that has stretched over several weeks since Trump first suggested NFL owners fire players who choose to kneel, rather than stand, during the national anthem.

It has been nearly a month since Trump's remarks at an Alabama rally created this latest firestorm.

So now the NFL is panicking, and both commissioner Roger Goodell and representatives of the players will attend a league board of governors meeting next week to address the actual causes and goals behind the protests. Players, coaches, and some owners protested by locking arms, kneeling and raising fists. The Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers stayed in their locker rooms during the anthem. This was made clear in a joint statement from the NFL and the NFL Players Association. They are protesting against the President, who represents the country.

But then, about a year ago, this guy Colin Kaepernick comes along and quietly sits for the US national anthem at several football games before someone finally notices and a reporter asks him about it. Kaepernick, disturbed by several cases of unarmed black men being killed with no repercussions, says he is protesting the oppression of people of colour in America and ongoing police brutality.
