Prince Harry accepts Legacy Award on behalf of the late Princess Diana”

Thirty years after Diana opened the UK's first HIV/AIDS unit at Middlesex Hospital in London and was photographed there shaking hands, sans gloves, with an HIV-positive patient, Harry accepted Attitude magazine's Legacy Award on her behalf and celebrated her groundbreaking work in a heartfelt speech.

On Thursday, she was honored for her work with the LGBT community, as well as the HIV and AIDS victims, at the event organized by Attitude magazine.

Harry (below) said: 'I believe that she would be telling everyone across society - not just those most at risk - that with effective treatment being free and available in the United Kingdom, that we must all embrace regular testing - both for our own sake and for those that we love.

Harry continued: "She know that the misunderstanding of this relatively new disease was creating a unsafe situation when mixed with homophobia".

In April 1987, Princess Diana opened the UK's first goal built HIV/Aids unit that exclusively cared for patients infected with the virus, at London Middlesex Hospital.

"I believe that she would be telling everyone across society - not just those most at risk - that with effective treatment being free and available in the United Kingdom, that we must all embrace regular testing - both for our own sake and for those that we love", he added.

"I believe that she would be telling everyone across society, not just those most at risk, that with effective treatment being free and available in the United Kingdom, that we must all embrace regular testing, both for our own sake and for those that we love", he said. "She did not live to see this treatment become widely available and save countless lives in the United Kingdom and around the world".

Prince Harry took an HIV test a year ago that was live streamed, and resulted in a large increase in HIV tests across the UK.

"William and I are incredibly proud of what our mother achieved and we thank you for awarding her the Legacy Award", he concluded to applause.

In front of the world's media, she shook the hand of a man suffering with the illness.

Prince Harry continued to explain what life was like for HIV and AIDS sufferers during that time. "Once again, I'm fortunate enough to be in this position in order to make a difference".
