Shell Buys NewMotion Charging Network in First Electric Vehicle Deal”

Global oil and lubricants major, Royal Dutch Shell has agreed to buy European electric charging network provider, the Netherlands-based NewMotion marking the first deal for the oil major in electric mobility, as per Reuters.

Under the deal, NewMotion, which has been active in the market since 2009, will continue as a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell.

Shell's Vice President for New Fuels, Matthew Tipper said that this acquisition will give their customers the facility to charge their EV's at their homes, offices or elsewhere. It manages over 30,000 EV charging points in Western Europe and also offers access to another 50,000 partner locations.

NewMotion now has over 30,000 charging points at homes and offices in countries like Netherlands, Germany, France and the UK.

"This move provides customers the flexibility to charge their electric vehicles at home, work and on the go". "We are excited that our ongoing mission and belief in a transition towards less-polluting transport source has been endorsed so strongly by Shell, one of the world's leading energy companies", he said in a statement.

Shell has previously said it is looking to incorporate charging points in its 1,000 fuel stations across the UK.
