Liverpool receive boost with news Mohamed Salah is rested for global break”

The Reds visit West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday evening before the final worldwide break of 2017 arrives.

That piece of good news for Salah and Liverpool fans got better today with confirmation he would be left off the travelling squad entirely, allowing him to remain in Liverpool following the game against West Ham on the weekend to rest and recuperate ahead of the holiday rush. According to the Liverpool Echo, Salah's workload in the worldwide break has been halved after Egypt cancelled their friendly against the United Arab Emirates, although the winger will be involved in the North African nation's meaningless World Cup Qualifier against Ghana.

The news is a major relief to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has already lost Sadio Mane to injury suffered while on global duty and will be delighted at the opportunity to hand Salah a well-earned rest.

"I thought it made sense after the Egypt penalty - obviously the pressure is bigger in Liverpool than in Egypt to qualify for the World Cup!", Klopp told Liverpool Echo.

Salah's dramatic double against Congo on October 8 sealed a place in Russian Federation next summer, and with the Ghana match now a dead rubber, his inclusion is not required.
