Gigantic Developers Motiga Have Been Closed Down For Budgetary Reasons”

Twinfinite has reached out to multiple individuals at both Perfect World and Motiga for clarification. "Today marks the end of Motiga and my time with an absolutely incredible team", Crislip tweeted last night.

Motiga employees have confirmed the shutdown, indicating that all employees are impacted by the shutdown.

Following-on from this, Destructoid, also spoke with Motiga CEO Chris Chung who revealed that the closer was a corporate decision adding that Perfect World felt that big "was not making enough revenue".

Motiga and enormous haven't had the most smoothest road to launch.

In a statement to Destructoid, Chung said the reason for the closure was a corporate one: 'It was a budgetary decision at the highest level. In short, enormous was not making enough revenue.

In June this year, very big finally launched but according to Perfect World the game has not proved profitable. Enormous is an online arena fighting game in which you and another team choose from a variety of heroes with all kinds of useful abilities. Chung also added that other studios will be affected by this decision. Later, he followed up on his initial response saying he made his initial statement "at a vulnerable moment" when he "may not have had all the facts surrounding what happened". At which point, the studio was signed by Perfect World. We'll update this story if/when we receive a response.

Huge was first announced in 2014. But the team showed up to work regardless, and soldiered on until publisher Perfect Games swooped in to acquire the company. Gigantic's first beta hit in 2015, before going offline for an extended period. Originally, Microsoft partnered with Motiga for the development of their hero-focused multiplayer game, then a Windows 10 exclusive.

I loved enormous, but it was beset by delays during production, and while the game gathered fans when it came out it doesn't appear to have been enough for owners Perfect World, who shut the company down.
