Winnipeg doctor facing more sexual assault charges

Police said Dr. Amir Ravesh was re-arrested on November 2 and charged with eight counts of sexual assault against women aged 24 to 69.

The new charges are in connection with incidents that took place at a walk-in medical clinic in Elmwood, with the earliest reported assault happening in 2013, police said.

Const. Jay Murray said the investigation is not over.

Ravesh, who was charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old patient on October 19, was rearrested on Thursday and is being held in custody, Winnipeg police said Friday.

He said police received a large number of calls following a press release about Ravesh's first arrest.

"We do believe there may still be other victims out there", said Murray.

The spokesman said the doctor entered the treatment room on his own, closed the door and then proceeded to examine the woman "in an inappropriate manner and the examination escalated to the point where the victim was seriously sexually assaulted".

Ravesh faces nine counts of sexual assault and one count of obtaining sexual services for consideration.

She later went to the hospital for her injuries and was released.

Police said the only thing the women appear to have in common is that they were all patients of his.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons says Dr. Ravesh is not now practicing. The clinic has since closed and Ravesh isn't now practising.

The Manitoba College of Family Physicians listed Dr, Amir Mazhari Ravesh as Secretary on the 2017/2018 Board of Directors page of their website.
