Manchester United's Ashley Young gives his opinion on Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli

Manchester United's Ashley Young gives his opinion on Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli”

Ashley Young has expressed his delight at being recalled to the England squad and insists he never gave up on his global career as he prepares to make his first appearance in over four years.

'I've showed I deserve to be in the squad, ' Young said on Wednesday.

Young has been called back into the England squad, following his strong form for United at wing-back this season.

"I never once shut the door on England or thought the door was shut on myself".

"For me, always an honour to pull on an England shirt".

At the start of Young's England career under Fabio Capello he was a winger or even a number 10 but now he has reinvented himself for Jose Mourinho as a wing-back.

Young has enjoyed playing behind in an unorthodox left-back role and he isn't surprised by Rashford's incredible development.

"I'm one of those players who wants to play every game and the World Cup is a long way away - but at the back of my mind I think every English player wants to go to the World Cup".

"For me, as a senior pro, you got the chance to watch the Under-18s and you could tell he was going to be a big talent". It's been quite easy to...

Young has been one Jose Mourinho's side's most impressive performers this term and is in line to win his first global cap since coming off the bench in a goalless draw in Ukraine in September 2013.

The team that took to the pitch in Kiev featured Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, all of whom have since retired.

England take on Germany and Brazil in two high-profile friendlies over the global break, with manager Gareth Southgate believed to be ready to give in to Young's wish and play him further forward. The only real thing to get excited about in these games is the first graduates from England's recent success at youth level coming through: Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Joe Gomez are all exciting talents, but an experienced head to offer advice and guidance would certainly be handy.

Gareth Southgate could not fail to have been impressed by the 32-year-old's rebirth as an attack-minded full-back at Manchester United, especially as the Three Lions boss moves to a back three.

If picked, Young will play for England for the first time since a World Cup qualifier against Ukraine back in September 2013 and he hasn't yet given up on featuring at next summer's World Cup in Russian Federation.

"He's got his feet on the ground and wants to learn and better himself every day".

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has withdrawn from the England squad through injury which has denied the pair a reunion after their recent exchange when their two clubs met at Old Trafford.
