Bhopal gangrape case: HC seeks status report on action against cops”

The 18-year-old civil services aspirant was on her way to Habibganj station on October 31 to catch a train home after attending coaching class, when she was allegedly raped near the tracks by four men who also took away her mobile, earrings and watch.

The victim along with her parents had gone to the GRP railway station in Bhopal where she was taunted by the station house officer by calling her ordeal a filmy story. While her father works with the Railway Protection Force, her mother is with the state police.

November 11 (ANI): Two doctors of Madhya Pradesh's Sultania Women Hospital have been suspended over an erroneous medical report that said the gangrape victim, a 19-year-old civil services aspirant, indulged in consensual sex with the culprits.

Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the high court had issued notices to the chief secretary and the DGP.

The high court bench comprising chief justice Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice Vijay Shukla pulled up the state government for "delay" in filing the FIR and "carelessness" in the medical examination of the 19-year-old victim.

MP advocate General Pushpendra Kaurav appeared before the Chief Justice on behalf of the state government and appraised the court about the police officers and doctors who have been suspended for dereliction of duty.

"As and when the chargesheet is filed, we direct the learned sessions judge, Bhopal to entrust the matter with a court, which can take up the proceedings, preferably on dayto-day basis", the bench observed.

"The report shall be filed within two weeks", it said. A reset of the protocols of medical examination report has been notified, and no report will be considered unless it is signed by a consultant, he added.Action against the doctors will be taken after a complete inquiry.

Placing the chain of events before the court, the advocate general said the government wouldn't spare anyone in the case and an awareness programme would be launched to sensitise police personnel about crimes against women.

The woman was allegedly raped by four men for almost three hours near the railway tracks in Bhopal when she was returning home after attending a coaching class on October 31.

There was no question of a "consent" in a rape case and since the "accused" were not in the scene during preparation of the medical examination report, the word "accused" crept in the report inadvertently instead of 'victim'.
