Radhika Jones Named Next Editor of Vanity Fair

Radhika Jones Named Next Editor of Vanity Fair”

Condé Nast on Monday announced it has tapped Radhika Jones, a former TIME editor, to be the new editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair.

After 25 years as editor in chief, Carter, 68, said earlier this year that he plans to resign in December, ending a storied run for one of the last remaining giants of NY media. "I'll miss my [New York Times] colleagues tremendously". "It's been a privilege to be part of Dean Baquet's newsroom".

Jones comes to the glossy from The New York Times, where she has served since November 2016 as editorial director for book coverage. The 68-year-old Carter had been the magazine's editor since 1992. In her new role, Jones will oversee all content development, production and consumer experiences for Vanity Fair's digital, social, video, print and experiential platforms.

Carter's exit from Vanity Fair was the first in a "mass exodus" of top editors stepping down from their long-time positions at major magazines, including Nancy Gibbs departing from Time, Robbie Myers from Elle, and Cindi Leive from Glamour.

"Above all, however, Carter's Vanity Fair has paid attention and, at times, fealty, to celebrity".

Every month, Vanity Fair commissions the best writers and photographers to explain the pressing issues of the day and take the pulse of the culture. Carter's predecessor, Brown, went on to edit the New Yorker, Talk and the Daily Beast. "We really wanted someone who could do the job and be a worthy successor to Graydon, and I think we found someone".

Prior to joining the Times a year ago, Jones was deputy managing editor at Time. Before that, she was a managing editor at The Paris Review and had also worked at Grand Street and Artforum.

Jones has a B.A. from Harvard University and holds a Ph.D.in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia, where she has also taught courses in writing and literature. Janice Min of the Hollywood Reporter was among the unsuccessful candidates, sources said.

On Saturday, sources said that after weeks of interviews, Jones was selected at a meeting early last week.
